CNN conducted a focus group earlier this week and it was bad news for former Vice President Joe Biden.
CNN host Alisyn Camerota interviewed six Democratic voters from Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania on Tuesday to discuss the 2020 presidential election.
The panel seemed interested in Democratic Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, and Kamala Harris of California — but literally laughed out loud when asked about Biden.
When Camerota the panel if they want to see Biden run for president in 2020, no one raised their hand.
“What is happening?” Camerota asked after a few of the panelists snickered.
One Democratic voter said Biden’s “time is done,” with another complaining that the former vice president comes from the “good old boy politics of the past.”
“I think we need a bold, strong leadership, and you’ll find that in the progressives,” one panelist said.
“We had the standard-bearer for the kind of pragmatic centrist candidate in Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Donald Trump is now president. He is not your average political candidate, so we really need to try to think outside the box because, you know, it seems like the dude is made of rubber. Anything you throw at him just bounces off, there’s nothing that sticks,” another added.
“I will be honest. He was riding the Obama wave and I thought he was a person that would unite the party, but to be honest, Sen. Biden really comes from kind of the good old boy politics of the past,” one Democratic voter said.
“I don’t think Joe Biden represents that new thing that we need. We need a new economy, we need new politics and we need someone different,” one panelist said.
Biden hasn’t even announced whether he will run for president or not, but it already seems like Democratic voters want someone more radical.
The panel laughing at the idea of Biden running for president comes less than a week after the former vice president traveled to Germany and trashed America.
Biden described America as “an embarrassment” and its trade policies “self-defeating.”
“The America I see values basic human decency, not snatching children from their parents or turning our back on refugees at our border. Americans know that’s not right,” Biden said.
“The American people understand plainly that this makes us an embarrassment. The American people know, overwhelmingly, that it is not right. That it is not who we are,” he added.

Biden also alluded to preparing for a 2020 run, which would be his third attempt after failing in 1988 and 2008.
“I have spent the better part of the last two years traveling throughout the United States of America, from Minnesota to Texas; from Boston to Birmingham,” Biden said.
“I can assure you, that the American people, the ultimate wellspring of power in the United States of America, remain committed to engaging the world with decency and respect,” he added.
