CNN analyst Samantha Vinograd argued on Tuesday that former President Barack Obama’s administration separating families at the border was different from when the Trump administration temporarily did it.During a segment on CNN with Wolf Blitzer, Vinograd — who previously worked in the Obama administration — claimed that when Obama separated migrant families, it was for “their protection.”
She claimed Obama’s policy was being used to help reduce human trafficking and “other kind of harm” to migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Without a whiff of self-awareness, she then claimed that the Trump administration should be shamed and embarrassed for using the same policies as Obama.
Below is the partial transcript of the exchange:
BLITZER: “He stopped it after he authorized the zero-tolerance policy that was announced by John Kelly here in “The Situation Room,” only, what, six or eight weeks after he was inaugurated and then the attorney general Jeff Sessions, at the time, he implemented that policy. The policy no longer exists right now, but that was a new strategy, a new policy that they had implemented to deter illegal immigration.”
VINOGRAD: “President Obama separated children from their families, Wolf, or from adults, Wolf, it was for their protection. It was as if there was a risk of trafficking or other kind of harm that might have been incurred. But even if he did do that, why is Donald Trump saying that two wrongs make a right? Again, Obama wasn’t right, but he’s saying that because something is happening under President Obama, he’s repeating it and upping the ante. That’s an incredibly poor excuse. He’s systematized that inhumane treatment that Obama was doing to protect children.”
So, when Obama separated children from their family, he was doing it to protect them.
But when Trump briefly did the exact same thing, he was mercilessly attacked and insulted.
That’s the sick and twisted logic from CNN, who apparently has no issue with viewers seeing how they are all total hypocrites who will do and say anything to defend Obama and attack Trump.
Vinograd was referring to Trump’s administration previously using zero-tolerance policies when dealing with immigrants at the southern border, which was following the law set by previous administrations.
Liberals are blaming Trump for using the same “zero tolerance” immigration practices as former Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama.
There were no protests and outrage when these three previous administrations temporarily separated children from the adults they arrived with at the border.
Yet, Trump is being blamed for protecting children from potentially being exploited by criminals and traffickers.
And, for the record, Trump signed an executive order ending the practice, and liberals still attack him for a policy he did not create.
