Walmart Goes Full Socialist — Ends Sales Of Short-Barrel Rifle And Handgun Ammo Nationwide [Details]

Liberals told Walmart, the world’s largest employer, to cave to their demands and beginning banning all things “gun.”

Walmart is listening.

Here’s the scoop, via Fox News:

Walmart is set to end sales of handguns in Alaska and will discontinue the sale of short-barrel rifle and handgun ammunition in stores nationwide, the super chain’s president and CEO announced Tuesday afternoon.

The store said it will gear its focus toward long-barrel deer rifles and shotguns, supplying much of the ammunition they require and providing hunting and sporting accessories and apparel, Doug McMillon wrote in a memo.

We have a long heritage as a company of serving responsible hunters and sportsmen and women, and we’re going to continue doing so,” McMillon said.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) hit back Tuesday. “The strongest defense of freedom has always been our free-market economy. It is shameful to see Walmart succumb to the pressure of the anti-gun elites. Lines at Walmart will soon be replaced by lines at other retailers who are more supportive of America’s fundamental freedoms. The truth is Walmart’s actions today will not make us any safer. Rather than place the blame on the criminal, Walmart has chosen to victimize law-abiding Americans,” the group said.

This is just the beginning. The Second Amendment continues to be eroded, slowly but surely.

More from CNBC:

Following Tuesday’s announcement, Walmart said its market share of ammunition will drop to a range of 6% to 9%, falling to the lower end of that range over time.

“We know these decisions will inconvenience some of our customers, and we hope they will understand,” McMillon said. “As a company, we experienced two horrific events in one week, and we will never be the same.”

Walmart said it intends for its remaining assortment to be even more focused on the needs of hunting and sport-shooting enthusiasts. McMillon said he is a gun owner who grew up in a family that raised bird dogs. And he noted the company’s founder, Sam Walton, was an avid outdoorsman who hunted quail.

Walmart’s remaining assortment in stores “will include long barrel deer rifles and shotguns, much of the ammunition they require, as well as hunting and sporting accessories and apparel,” he said. Bartlett also said Walmart’s current sporting goods assortment has a “broad depth” of merchandise to make up for lost sales.
