A group of protesters gathered outside the City Council building in St. Paul, Minn., on Monday to demand the Pledge of Allegiance be restored as a requirement at council meetings, the Pioneer Press in St. Paul reported.ADVERTISEMENT
The session they protested was meant to readdress the council’s unanimous decision to drop the pledge requirement from meetings.
Trump in a tweet earlier this week called the protestors «patriots.»
“Outrage is growing in the Great State of Minnesota where our Patriots are now having to fight for the right to say the Pledge of Allegiance,” the president tweeted on Tuesday. “I will be fighting with you!”The Pioneer Press noted that Anne Mavity, a St. Louis Park council member, said roughly half of Minnesota’s cities, including Minneapolis, do not recite the pledge before meetings.
