Oh boy, did Nancy Pelosi have feisty words for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell regarding Universal background Checks Bill H.R. 8.
Pelosi went to great lengths to let McConnell know that if her precious H.R.8. Bill doesn’t pass, that there will be “hell to pay.”
The H.R.8. Bill “prohibits a firearm transfer between private parties unless a licensed gun dealer, manufacturer, or importer first takes possession of the firearm to conduct a background check.”
So if a good friend has been threatened by her ex-boyfriend and doesn’t feel safe in her house all alone, she would not be allowed to borrow a gun from another friend to help protect herself, even if she’s a well-seasoned shooter.
Pelosi instead thinks that there should be “hell to pay” if this kind of this kind of borrowing happens.
Just look at the comments she made on Capitol Hill during a press conference:
“So here we are, once again, asking the Grim Reaper, informing the Grim Reaper that this bill, these bills, are alive and well in the public. The the public opinion, public sentiment will weigh in. And as I have said in our meetings across the country, we will make this issue too hot for him to handle.
But some of the gun violence prevention groups have made, upped the ante even further, to say that if this bill does not pass, Mitch McConnell and the Republicans in the Senate, and the president will have hell to pay.”
Sounds like she’s getting pretty desperate, eh? Maybe engaging in “theatrics,” some would say?
As reported by Time:
(WASHINGTON) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that Democrats are engaging in “theatrics” over gun control legislation. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned that “people are dying” because the Senate leader refuses to act.
After a summer of devastating mass shootings, Congress appears no closer to approving legislation to curb gun violence as President Donald Trump wavers on what kind of bill he wants the lawmakers to send for his signature.
“Lives are at stake,” Pelosi told reporters, visibly shaken by questions asking if the House could have done more.
“Don’t ask me what we haven’t done. We have done it,” Pelosi said. “If you are annoyed with my impatience it’s because people are dying because Senator McConnell hasn’t acted. Why don’t you go ask him if he has any regrets for all the people who died because he hasn’t acted?”
McConnell refuses to vote on a House-passed bill to expand background checks for gun purchases because he says it’s not at all clear the Senate would be able to pass the legislation or Trump would sign it into law.
It sounds to me like McConnell knows that bringing a bill to a vote that has no chance of becoming law is a complete waste of time, which is exactly what Nancy and the Dem’s are trying to do.
Isn’t it better that McConnell is saving the Democrats all the time that they would have wasted by going through the hours and hours required to put the bill forth, only for it to be tossed out because President Trump refuses to sign something that he thinks is an assault on the 2nd Amendment?
Methinks her “theatrics” are a complete waste of time.
