Former Trump lawyer and felon, Michael Cohen, asked his attorneys last summer about receiving a potential pardon from the President according to his spokesman Lanny Davis. This news contradicts what Cohen stated during his testimony to Congress last week.
Stephen Ryan, Cohen’s lawyer at the time, was asked by Cohen to meet with Rudy Giuliani about a Presidential pardon after he was raided by the FBI.
Check out what The Hill reported:
According to the Journal, Giuliani left open the possibility that Trump could grant Cohen a future pardon, Trump’s lawyers said.
Giuliani told The New York Times late Wednesday that multiple people facing scrutiny from the Justice Department in connection with Robert Mueller‘s special counsel probe have reached out to him about a possible presidential pardon.
Giuliani’s answer reportedly came in response to a question about potential pardon discussions between him and a lawyer who, at the time, was in talks with Cohen about legal representation.
“I always gave one answer, and they always left disappointed,” the former New York City mayor told the Times.
Although it seems Cohen lied once again to Congress, Lanny Davis insisted that Cohen is still standing by his claims he made during the hearing.
“Prior to Michael Cohen’s decision to leave the ‘Joint Defense Group’ and tell the truth on July 2, 2018, Michael was open to the ongoing ‘dangling’ of a possible pardon by Trump representatives privately and in the media,” Davis said. “During that time period, he directed his attorney to explore possibilities of a pardon at one point with Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani as well as other lawyers advising President Trump.”
“But after July 2, 2018, Mr. Cohen authorized me as a new lawyer to say publicly Mr. Cohen would never accept a pardon from President Trump even if offered,” Davis proclaimed. “That continues to be the case.”
This revelation from Davis completely contradicts what Cohen said during the hearing which was, “I have never asked for it, nor would I accept a pardon from President Trump.”
Just another example of Cohen lying to Congress! This man cannot be trusted.
Davis claims that Cohen didn’t lie because his statement is “technically true” because he never directly asked the President for a pardon.
“But the sentence was also literally true,” Davis argued. “[Cohen] never asked President Trump for a pardon. His lawyer explored the disingenuous ‘dangle’ repeatedly floated by Rudy and Trump in one meeting and never followed up.”
Regardless of if Cohen directly asked President Trump for a pardon, he asked his lawyer at the time if it was a possibility.
During his hearing Cohen stated that he would never “accept a pardon from President Trump.”
This is a flat-out lie considering he asked his former lawyer, Ryan if it was a possibility.
Whether Cohen directly asked the President for a pardon or not doesn’t matter.
He asked his lawyer at the time if a pardon was an option and the fact that he didn’t disclose this during the testimony shows that he is trying to manipulate the situation and alter the truth.
What else would you expect from a compulsive liar who is going to prison for lying?
